Jim Koper: Electric Recumbent
Here are some photos of my electric recumbent. It started life as a $50 mountain bike from Wal-Mart. I built it for my daily 7 1/2-mile commute to work. The bike has an  84'" wheelbase. The electric drive system is a 750-watt motor running on 24 volts. I built the frame from 1 1/4" 14 ga. tubing, and the seat is from an old exercise bike. The mount for the basket slips into the tube for the seat back, and can be removed without tools in seconds. The bike weighs approx 100 lbs, has a 15 mile range and cruises at 20 mph without pedaling.
